Lake
Wentworth in the Town of Wolfeboro continues to be a
popular summer destination, particularly for families
from Boston and Conneticut. The town's motto is "The
Oldest Summer Resort in America", indicating its long
tradition. Its downtown is picturesque, with shops
lining the main street and large public docks at the
lake shore.
Lake Wentworth only
takes a back seat to Winnipesaukee in size. The lake
boasts 3017 acres of pristine un-crowded shorefront.
Like Squam Lake there is an active association keeping
the shoreline development in check including a ban on
jet skis and continued water quality testing to keep the
lake oligotrophic.
The lake has over 15
miles of shoreline with over 20 islands. Lake Wentworth
supports cold and warm water fish including landlocked
salmon. The average depth is 25 feet with a maximum
depths of 80 feet. You can also navigate from Crescent
Lake in downtown Wolfeboro out to the lake.
If you are looking
for a setting on a large lake without the crowds Lake
Wentworth should be your first choice.
